About ScannerQR

ScannerQR is a free suite of tools for scanning and creating QR codes and barcodes. We started with a simple belief: scanning a code should not require an app install, an account, or handing your data to a server. Every scanner and generator on this site runs locally in your browser, so the images you upload and the codes you create never leave your device.

Our mission

QR codes are everywhere — on menus, packaging, posters, boarding passes and business cards. Yet many online tools are slow, ad-heavy, or quietly upload your images to a server. We built ScannerQR to be the opposite: fast, clean, transparent and private by default.

What makes us different

• Truly private: decoding and generation happen on-device using open-source libraries. Nothing is uploaded.
• No watermarks or signup: every QR code you create is yours to use commercially, free of charge.
• Comprehensive: we support QR, DataMatrix, PDF417, Aztec and the full family of 1D barcodes, plus 35+ QR content types.
• Safety-first: our Safe QR Scannerpreviews a code's destination and flags suspicious links before you open them.

How we build

Our scanning is powered by the well-established ZXing decoding engine, and our generators use battle-tested open-source rendering libraries. We document our approach openly — see our methodology and editorial policy for details on how we test accuracy and keep guidance up to date.
